The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
